A Look Back at the 2006 NCCYM Program in Las Vegas
A record setting number of attendees - over 2500 - ventrued to the desert of Nevada to watch it bloom through inspiring keynotes, dynamic prayer and worship and a host of workshop and learning opportunities. Here's a summary of that memorable conference.
Overview
NCCYM began on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 12 noon with the opening of the Catholic Youth Ministry Resource Expo and concluded at 12 noon on Sunday, December 3, with the closing liturgy. Review complete schedule.
Highlighting this conference were dynamic speakers who provoked and challenged participants to personally reflect and professionally develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities to be living witnesses of the Gospel to the young church of today.
Keynote Presentations—challenging presentations occured each morning (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) during our General Sessions.
- Concurrent Sessions—these six large sessions were repeated Friday and Saturday highlighting our professional certification standards and the topic of adolescent catechesis.
- Workshops and Special Tracks—nearly fifty 90-minute sessions covered a wide array of practical, theological, and timely issues of importance to those who serve the young church.
- Pre-Conferences and the Sports and Spirituality Symposium—these special events and programs were offered either before or during NCCYM.
- Resource Spotlights—these one hour presentations highlighted a particular resource or program by a sponsor and were held either prior to the morning general sessions or during the lunch breaks.
- National Catholic Committee for Girl Scouts and Camp Fire—The NCCGSCF hosted both a welcome/orientation for new members and old friends, as well as a luncheon on Saturday.
- National Catholic Youth Ministry Awards—A distinct highlight of NCCYM is the national recognition of contributions made by adults around the country to the field of youth ministry. The award recipients were …
Catholic Youth Ministry Resource Exposition
The Catholic Youth Ministry Resource Expo gathered an extensive array of publishers, vendors, Catholic speakers and performers, and national youth-serving organizations so that attendees could explore the latest and greatest resources for adults serving the young church. These exhibits form an integral part of the conference and the continuing formation of ministers.
Prayer and Worship
At NCCYM, conference participants experienced dynamic, deep, and creative liturgical experiences that enlivened and refreshed them. A spiritual thread was intentionally woven through all aspects of this conference from public and private prayer opportunities to our Cafe Soul, dedicated to providing spiritual food for the hungry soul.
