2008 Youth Ministry ResourcesThe 2008 Youth Ministry Resource Manual, Our God, the Great I Am will help our young people know God as creator, challenger, comforter, and friend. The sessions are developed so that youth ministry, campus, and catechetical leaders may address the many salient ways we encounter God through Scripture, sacraments, the discernment of gifts, in our family and friends, by serving others, and in the Eucharist.

A Variety of Strategies and Resources

The sessions address a multitude of teaching and learning styles, as well as a variety of ways to engage young people. Included are:

  • A process for discerning servant leaders, based in Scripture and the understanding that God gifts us and calls us to serve.
  • A confirmation retreat based upon the gifts of the Spirit, also rooted in Scripture.
  • An intergenerational session for families, which includes creating a meal, and highlighting the revelation of God in family relationships.
  • A session connecting liturgy to the experience of hospitality and relationship building, culminating in the celebration of the liturgy.

Readers are strongly encouraged to read Bill Huebsch’s Primer, Our Our God, the Great I Am. The primer will help all see God with new eyes. Huebsch encourages adult leaders to reflect on their current understanding and experience of God. Additionally, he provides solid theological foundations for adults who will lead the sessions with youth.

As in previous years, a special segment in the Youth Ministry Resource Manual assists Catholic parish and school communities reflect on and collaboratively plan for the National Celebration of World Youth Day on October 26, 2008.

The 2008 prayer, Our God, the Great I Am, expresses gratitude to God for all that God has revealed and given to us: the earth, our family and friends, and most especially Jesus Christ, as a path to the Creator. Distribute to youth, catechists, and families to foster spiritual growth.
