WEBINAR: The Future Faithful Family Project—Raising the Next Generation of Faithful Kids

May 21 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT

The OneTable Initiative of NFCYM is happy to partner with other family-serving ministries and organizations to inspire, equip, and empower parents and ministry leaders to partner together in raising kids in faith. In this eye-opening presentation, Dr. Greg Popcak will discuss a recent study he helped to develop in association with the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown with lead researcher Dr. Mark Gray. Only about 15% of children raised in Catholic households will grow up to be faithful Catholic adults. The Future Faithful Families Project identified families who bucked that trend and raised most—if not all—of their children to a faithful adulthood.

The Future Faithful Families project interviewed both the parents and faithful adult children to determine both the family dynamics and family faith practices that enabled these families to experience such remarkable success with regard to faith transmission. In sum, children are more likely to own their faith as adults when they grow up in families where they experience the faith as the source of the warmth in their homes. The ability of external faith practices (e.g., regular Mass attendance, Catholic schools, youth ministry, etc) to “stick” appears to be dependent upon the children’s perceived impact that faith has on the quality of the relationships in the home.
