Inaugural OneTable Bishops’ Gathering

NFCYM's OneTable Initiative Hosts Inaugural Bishops' Gathering

11 bishops gathered in Louisville for the inaugural OneTable Initiative Bishops’ Gathering. The gathering allowed for honest, authentic conversations about the realities of family life today, the struggles of our families and ministry leaders, and our vision of moving toward a new reality of supporting and equipping the domestic church.

Text

We invited bishops to join us on one of the two days the gathering was offered. This gathering aimed to introduce and model what OneTable could look like in their Diocese and parishes.

The day was divided into four sessions with different presenters.

  • Session One: Around the Family Table with Dr. Gregory and Lisa Popcak
  • Session Two: Around the Parish Table with Debbie Gonzales
  • Session Three: Challenges to Raising Kids in the Faith with Jake Samour
  • Session Four: How Can We Partner Together? with Bishop Brendan Cahill and Brigitte Burke.

The first three sessions were paired with videos of a diverse group of parents from all over the country talking about their daily lives and raising children in the faith, as well as table conversations with the bishops who attended.

I found it hopeful to see the Bishop give us a whole day to talk about families and their daily struggles and joys in living a holy life. The Bishops were happy and willing to listen and talk about their own family stories. They want to partner with families, build those relationships, and better support the families.

My favorite memory was at the end of the first day. Bishop Hicks of the Diocese of Juliet said that this initiative was worth it, and he enjoyed hearing the presentations.
