About the Project
As part of its efforts to serve the growing diversity of the Catholic Church in the United States, the NFCYM Board of Directors is committed to an organizational Diversity and Inclusion Plan in 2020. This plan was developed by the Multicultural Diversity Ad Hoc Committee of the Board with the support of the NFCYM national staff.
The recommendation to develop a leadership formation program for NFCYM Members was identified in the Diversity and Inclusion Plan with the purposes to:
- Develop leaders from diverse backgrounds and communities in an intentional way.
- Develop leaders for the field of youth ministry and for NFCYM that possess the knowledge and understanding of our Mission: to support and strengthen those who accompany young people as they encounter and follow Jesus Christ.
- Develop these individuals’ skills to be effective leaders in their parishes, dioceses, and other organizations.
- Develop individuals who can fill the roles of Multicultural Region representatives as well as other leadership roles in the organization and the field of Catholic youth ministry by end of fiscal year 2023.
The formation program is projected to be an online, 10-12 session program that can be completed over the course of one year. The curriculum should cover basics in pastoral leadership development, intercultural competencies, and allow participants to learn practical skills for implementation into their ministerial setting.
