NFL GM Chris Ballard reveals how his deep-rooted Catholic faith guided him through the last year of social unrest

Those who work with young people know that sports and professional athletes have incredible influence over the lives of most teenagers. The NFL is one of the most dominant cultural institutions today, which means that it is consistently in the spotlight when our country experiences conflict. Racism. The Pandemic. Political division. These issues have impacted all of us this year, from the NFL to each of our parishes and dioceses, and they will continue to have a significant impact on the lives of our young people.

Grounded in his faith and starting with the core Catholic value of the dignity of every person, Chris Ballard offers his insights and experiences for how to work effectively and justly to achieve unity within a diverse organization. Join this moderated conversation between Chris, Indianapolis Chaplain Fr. Douglas Hunter, long-time youth minister Mike Patin plus Darius Villalobos, NFCYM’s Director of Cultural Diversity to learn practical tips for how our Catholic faith can help you engage in difficult conversations with young people about topics of supreme importance in our society.

Racism: Authentic Conversations Between Young People and Clergy

Racism is a difficult issue to talk about openly and honestly, yet that is exactly what ministry leaders must do to help transform attitudes and hearts. This webinar is facilitated by young people asking the clergy representing different cultural and ethnic communities on how the Church has participated in and has addressed racism in this country. They also discuss what systematic change must be done within and outside diocesan structures (staff, seminary, clergy, outside communities) to help our communities address the sin of racism in society and in our Church.

Presented on December 1, 2020
Featuring Archbishop Nelson Perez, Bishop Fernand Cheri, Bishop Daniel Flores, Fr. Henry Sands, Ellen Orie, Trent Burke, and Anju Banerjee

PROTAGONISTS OF CHANGE: YOUTH, RACISM, AND THE ROLE OF FAITH

Young people are not just participating, but helping to drive many of today’s current trends. One area of significance is the nationwide response to racism. Rather than talk about how young people are responding, we wanted to hear from young people themselves: Why is this issue important to them? How are the addressing this in their communities? How does their faith play a part in their response? Join us as a panel of youth and young adults witness to how they are addressing racism in their communities and how we accompany our young people to help make change based on Gospel Values. Panelists include: Richard Scott (Washington DC), Ellen Orie (Richmond, Va), Trent Burke (North Carolina A&T University), Anju Banerjee (Baltimore, MD), and moderated by Cynthia Martinez Psencik (Archdiocese of New York)

HOW TO TALK ABOUT RACISM – 3 PART SERIES

Racism is a sin. Like most sins, it’s not easy to name or talk about with others in a group setting. Many people choose to not say anything for fear of saying the wrong thing. Silence is not the solution. Silence contributes to the deep pain and suffering of people of color and it makes reconciliation further out of reach. How can we have honest, critical, and courageous conversations to move toward healing and restoring the dignity of all people? Join us to learn conversation techniques and receive resources to assist in facilitating these essential conversations with young people, colleagues, friends and family. Let’s take a bold step and explore these questions together with a diverse panel of presenters.

Presented on June 17, July 16, and July 28, 2020
Featuring Pamela Harris (Diocese of Columbus), Deacon Art Miller (Archdiocese of Hartford), and Dobie Moser (Diocese of Cleveland)

Moderated by Darius Villalobos (NFCYM)
