NFCYM is on a year-long journey to identify the essential elements of youth ministry. To help us in our search we are asking four of our partner organizations to tell us about one element in their model that they believe is key to successful youth ministry! Join NFCYM for an afternoon of sharing, questioning, and discussing what some of the ingredients for the “secret sauce” might be!

Event Overview

You are invited to join ministry colleagues from across the county to examine, discuss, and reflect on the essential elements of youth ministry. What makes it work? Is there a secret sauce?

    What’s the secret ingredient? with YDisciple, Lifeteen, Alpha, and the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement
  • Panel Discussion – (2:05 pm ET | 11:10 am PT)
    Youth Ministers from across the country
  • Small Group Discussion – (3:05 pm ET | 12:05 pm PT) – Break open discussion with other ministers on what it takes to 

Sessions will be recorded and available for viewing to participants post-event.

Emcee

Benito Medrano

Benito Medrano is the young adult coordinator in the Diocese of Orange. Before that he worked for the Office of Formation and Evangelization in the Diocese of Fresno where his parents and most of his siblings live. Benito prefers sci-fi shows, rolled-down windows, and loud music in a car, and is getting into the habit of actually reading books, instead of just buying them. Benito was born and raised in Guanajuato, Mexico, and came to the United States at the age of 15 with his parents and four siblings.

Laura Schuberg

Laura Schuberg is the Coordinator of Youth Ministry and Confirmation preparation for the Diocese of Orange.  After a powerful experience of God’s love at 17, she dove into parish youth ministry for many years.   She has lived in Rome twice to receive further formation through the Emmanuel School of Mission which involved full time life a missionary all throughout Europe. She has been blessed to minister in Santa Barbara, Ventura, LA and Orange County. On free evenings, you will find her doing escape rooms, hanging out at the beach, chasing beautiful sunsets or cooking banana bread from scratch.

Four national organizations that work with diverse models of youth ministry will each present an element they believe is essential to their model and then engage in conversation with each other, our moderators, and participants.

In a moderated panel, Youth Ministers from across the country and from various regions will come together to break open the essential key elements that were mentioned as well as discuss what elements they see as being the “secret sauce”.

Small Group Discussion

Participants will gather and then join breakout rooms to share insights gained from the sessions and discuss ways to implement the learnings in ministry settings practically.
