SESSION 1: AN EMMAUS JOURNEY: FROM PRE-SYNOD TO EXHORTATION
The Church has spent the last three years encountering youth and young adults – through consultations, study, and interacting with them at synodal experiences in Rome. Come and learn how we got there, who was involved, and what we learned. This session will explore the process and how the Church came to understand young people today.

SESSION 2: “HE WALKED WITH THEM”: THE ART OF ACCOMPANIMENT
Throughout the Synod process, young people repeatedly expressed a desire for accompaniment and mentors. What does “accompaniment” mean in the local community, especially as youth and young adults are increasingly disconnected from the life of the parish? This session will explore how we can respond to the need for mentors and ministers.

SESSION 3: “WHAT THINGS?” THE SACRED ACT OF LISTENING
Just as Jesus listened to the disciples on the way to Emmaus, the Church is called to listen to youth and young adults. Throughout the Synod process, church leaders heard from young people and sought to respond to them. What does “listening” mean in our local communities? This session will explore strategies for listening with compassion and for offering hope.

SESSION 4: “AND THEIR EYES WERE OPENED”: VOCATIONAL DISCERNMENT
The Synod Fathers noted that youth and young adulthood are “privileged moments for listening, for availability, and for accepting God’s will” (Final Document, 140) – and as such our ministry with young people “needs a vocational slant.” How do we orient our work towards helping youth and young adults respond to God’s call to holiness for their lives? This session will explore creative ideas on engaging young people in discerning their role in the world.
