Q&A with Michelle Duffey, Director of Communiction
Where are you based?
Columbus, Ohio
How long have you worked for NFCYM?
I started on August 19, 2019 after working in corporate settings for over a decade.
Outside of work, what do you like to do?
When not working, I am often spending time with my family or friends, including Jesus at Mass or Adoration. I can also be found taking a long walk through a local park, typically by the water, listening to music or a podcast, or baking something sweet.
It brings me joy to create unique cakes for celebrating birthdays or other occasions – this is one I just created for my friends who graduated with their Master’s from the John Paul II Pontifical Institute in DC.
What is something about you that most folks might not know?
I love to travel, particularly on pilgrimages and they often include Marian sites and places with Eucharistic miracles. So far, I’ve visited 14 countries, including Israel, Italy, Guatemala, Thailand, and Brazil. This included visits to Our Lady of… Altötting, Aparecida, Fatima, Medjugorje, and Montserrat, and Eucharistic miracle sites in Santarém, Seefeld, Orvieto, and O’Cebreiro, and walking 100 miles of the Camino.
What you do at NFCYM?
As the Director of Communication, I oversee the newsletters, website, social media, and other venues of sharing information to our members and the field. I also manage the NFCYM branding, and marketing efforts.
What is the best part about your job – why do you do what you do?
God placed a desire on my heart to serve Him more directly in my day-to-day work and I have a passion for bringing youth to know and love Him. NFCYM provides the opportunity to put my skills and experience to work to help those who accompany the young Church. Witnessing youth actively engage in the faith at NCYC and through our social media channels is proof of the tremendous work our members and youth ministry leaders across the country do, letting Christ work through them.
